Anyone know what the steering wheel with the exclamation point means? “You’re steering is borked!” What about the pad lock (?) to the left of it? And I think the tire that isn’t the low pressure warning light says “TC” in it, for traction control? So many dummy lights.

The steering wheel with the ! is probably the power steering failure or error light, and the padlock is probably the Sonic’s central locking or alarm.

The last one is probably traction control as you said.

EDIT: taken from the owner’s manual.

Electric power steering?

Steering wheel with the eclaimation point is power steering failure. I learned that in driver’s ed. Probably would have been better to learn it in a classroom than while driving and having the power steering fail, but we can’t all be winners.

I hope I don’t need a light to tell my my power steering isn’t working, but I guess it’s some good positive reinforcement. “Yep, you’re right buddy, you’re steering is borked!”

What’s the difference between that traction control off light and the one with the car and the squiggly lines and the word “OFF?”

To be clear, I just posted this for discussion, but I appreciate that you googled the owner’s manual. I’m still not sure what the “Immobilizer Light” is for. I Googled it myself.

That’s not correct.

The first one means that a Scion TC in a beaker has been placed on a burner.

The second one means that a Chinese knockoff pokeball has infiltrated the blinker fluid reservoir.

The third one means that a giant lock is devouring your car.

The steering wheel with exclamation is probably an error for the steering angle sensor. It means the stability control won't be active because it doesn't know what direction you're steering.

I’m guessing the first one means that the system is working properly. The car with squiggly lines and the word “off” is when you press the button to turn off tcs. And just the car with squiggly lines is when the tcs is being used.

The worst dummy light of all time is the one found on modern Mazdas. It has a thermometer icon - which, on any other cars would mean your engine is overheating - but its blue.

What does this light mean? It means EVERYTHING IS OK.

The blue temperature should indicate that it means the engine is cold. Modern temperature gauges lie so hard so they figure they save a couple cents by just using a light. It goes out when the engine is normal and red when it’s hot.

Well for some of us older folks, 36 here, they didn’t have all those fancy lights when we took drivers ed lol. No traction control, TPMS sensorsnone of that, you had yous standard guages and a group of maybe 8 or 10 warning lights. Low fuel, temp sensor, headlights and brights serivce engine soon etc. But yeah if you can’t figure out your power steering is out you got issues man lol

lol yeah you go to make that turn when you slow down and your like shit its soooooo hard to turn the wheel. Thats why old cars had such large steering wheels more leverage

Yeah, imagine a Honda Civic with no power steering. Tiny wheel is useless.

Thankfully, we were on smaller streets. Still a bitch to pull over, though.

Some Subarus have the blue thermometer, too. In a Subaru it means the engine hasn’t warmed up yet, so you shouldn’t romp on it. I assume it’s the same for Mazda.

I actually like it. The plastic is cheap, but it’s a cheap car. It looks better when it’s not lit up like a Christmas tree.

One is traction control the other is stability control. (Fewer and fewer cars even give you the option to turn this off.)
